{"id":2037,"date":"2017-03-17T18:44:11","date_gmt":"2017-03-17T16:44:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/saisa.eu\/blogs\/Guidance\/?p=2037"},"modified":"2017-03-17T18:44:11","modified_gmt":"2017-03-17T16:44:11","slug":"portable-ocr-tools-to-extract-text-from-scanned-pages","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/saisa.eu\/blogs\/Guidance\/?p=2037","title":{"rendered":"Portable OCR tools to extract text from scanned pages"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In addition to previously mentioned <a href=\"http:\/\/saisa.eu\/blogs\/Guidance\/?p=1664\">gImageReader<\/a>, these 2 other portable <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Optical_character_recognition\">OCR<\/a> tools worked well in the following scenarios:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For adding text overlay into a scanned PDF file (book\/document):\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/portableapps.com\/apps\/office\/pdf-xchange-portable\">PDF-XChange Viewer Portable<\/a> with OCR function<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>For capturing text on the computer screen (region):\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/capture2text.sourceforge.net\/\">Capture2Text<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For PDF-XChange Viewer one might need to install <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tracker-software.com\/pdf-xchange-viewer-ocr\">language package<\/a> first. (The installation folder is &#8220;PortableApps\\PDF-XChangeViewerPortable\\App\\PDFV_Portable&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p>Please note, that also <a href=\"http:\/\/saisa.eu\/blogs\/Guidance\/?p=142\">IrfanView<\/a> has a plugin for OCR. It is called KADMOS and is available via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.irfanview.com\/plugins.htm\">plugin page<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/irfanview.info\/plugins\/kadmos\/\">here<\/a>.
