For an android DLNA Player, see <a title=\"AnDLNA, android application to view videos and online feeds from your media server\" href=\"http:\/\/saisa.eu\/blogs\/Guidance\/?p=701\">AnDLNA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Serviio installation introduces 3 components: Start, Stop Serviio scripts and Serviio Console. The figure below shows the online sources examples in Serviio console.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/saisa.eu\/blogs\/Guidance\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/serviio1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Serviio1\" src=\"http:\/\/saisa.eu\/blogs\/Guidance\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/serviio1-small.png\" width=\"450\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If Serviio recognizes the client device, then it automatically uses suitable renderer profile. Otherwise it uses &#8220;Generic DLNA profile&#8221; (see Status tab). The menu structure visible in the client, can be adjusted in the Presentation tab.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note about alternatives<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I got Serviio working with Android phone (AnDLNA) and with Philips home theater. Neither were capable of showing subtitles.<\/p>\n<p>Clearly the detailed functions, like subtitles, depends on both the media server and the player. I guess, one have to experiment with different Media Servers until getting a satisfactory solution. I&#8217;m listing here experiences with other alternatives. Note, I haven&#8217;t looked DLNA problems in details, since Serviio was working fine.<\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/tversity.com\/\">TVersity<\/a>: was working fine. About the same functionality as with Serviio. Older version is free (need to search in internet)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/sourceforge.net\/apps\/mediawiki\/lximedia\/index.php?title=Main_Page\">LXiMediaCenter<\/a>: simply and easy to use, alternative for sharing local files (no online capability)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/code.google.com\/p\/ps3mediaserver\/\">PS3 Media Server<\/a>: was working fine, but no online capability. I did not get subtitles working.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/xbmc.org\/\">XBMC<\/a>: I was able to setup sharing, but couldn&#8217;t get files visible in clients.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note about subtitles<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I got subtitles working in Philips hometheater, when using LXiMediaCenter as Media Server.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Notes about testing<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li>\n<div><a title=\"VLC, Tool for playing videos\" href=\"http:\/\/saisa.eu\/blogs\/Guidance\/?p=438\">VLC<\/a> was able to show subtitles send by LXiMediaCenter.
