Avira Free Antivirus, Tool for basic protection

There are several different antivirus programs on the market. One of the free alternatives is Avira . One can configure real-time scan mode (reading/writing), update frequency etc.

Plus:

Common Sense Guide to Mitigating Insider Threats

Software Engineering Institute has published the latest revision of the “Common Sense Guide to Mitigating Insider Threats“. It is good reading for any security manager, and provides 19 practises that each organization should implement.

Definition

Malicious insider is defined as a current or former employee, contractor, or business partner who meets the following criteria:
• has or had authorized access to an organization’s network, system, or data
• has intentionally exceeded or intentionally used that access in a manner that negatively affected the confidentiality, integrity, or availability of the organization’s information or information systems

It focuses on IP (intellectual property) theft, IT sabotage, and fraud.

SEI-insider-2012

It is based on the database of more than 700 insider threat cases.

Plus

  • The Guide contains mappings in appendix C to NIST SP 800-53 and ISO 27002.

Guides for Time Management Matrix

Time Management matrix is a good tool to focus on effectiveness. Sometimes the reference is made to Eisenhower, and sometimes to Stephen Covey.

Guides for Personal Mission Statement

What is Personal Mission Statement?

I like the following definition:

Mission Statement is a sentence or short paragraph which is written by a person and reflects their objectives, identity, values and principle aims. Vision Statements is a sentence or short paragraph providing a broad, aspirational image of the future.
A Mission is defined as ‘Purpose, reason for being’. Defined simply “Who we are and what we do”. A vision is defined as ‘An Image of the future we seek to create’.

There are several other definitions:

  • Wikipedia:
    • A mission statement is a statement of the purpose of a company, organization or person, its reason for existing.
  • Mission Statement:
    • A purposeful promise that carries you towards your goals. A well thought out, goal-focused mission statement can act as an achievement coach
  • Personal mission statement
    • provides clarity and gives you a sense of purpose. It defines who you are and how you will live.
  • Personal mission statement
    • is a written-down reason for being and many believe it is the key to finding your path in life. A mission statement is focused on the practice of what you need to be doing. Your mission needs to include your enthusiasms for life. If you have no passion for your mission, then it isn’t really your mission.
  • Personal mission statement
    • is a brief description of what you want to focus on, what you want to accomplish and who you want to become in a particular area of your life over the next one to three years.

Guides

The approaches to Personal Mission Statement varies a little. Here below is a list of guide alternatives. There is no shortcut. The guides provides the tools, not the answers since there are no right or wrong answers…

PDFill PDF Tools is a good alternative for various operations on pdf files. It contains more features than PDFsam which I have listed earlier.

Especially it can encrypt/decrypt, add text or image watermarks etc. (However, licensing is different than in PDFsam).
